When you pay yourself first there is nothing to worry about investing whether your strategy fails or succeed. This is what I understand inside the book. To make it more clearly about investing, risk is always there and strategy is always changing. It really means Investing is only for risk taker persons, but to be safe and not to worry about the book advice to save money or pay you first.
